The company offers purpose-built technology via their app and capital products to source and finance residential real estate investments. Backflip is an all-in-one platform providing entrepreneurs with the technology, data, and financing strategies that allow them to scale their business.

Backflip is seeking a Loan Closer for our business-purpose Processing Team. Backflip originates real estate investment loans (not consumer loans). As an early hire, this individual will play a critical role in ensuring Backflip has a best-in-class closing operation that is borrower-friendly, detail oriented, operationally efficient and designed to scale. They will also play a key role in ensuring Backflip’s Culture continues to be enlivened in the operation.

This position is remote (U.S.) and a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor (~60 person team) working directly with senior leaders in a well-capitalized startup with a great culture (Check out our recently announced $15M Series A).

Compensation for this role includes a $70,000 annual salary with a $60/per file commission incentive, and is based on a variety of factors including prior experience, geographic location, stock option grant, and other factors, and may fall outside of the stated range for certain candidates. What You’ll Do:

Ensure our members have an efficient and positive closing experience

Draw loan documents with a high level of accuracy

Coordinate with closing agents to ensure the loan is accurately balanced and cleared for closing

Partner with the processor to ensure all final loan conditions are cleared prior to funding

Verify all wiring instructions prior to requesting the funding wire

Review executed loan documents to ensure all documents are present and properly signed

Finalize the file in the operating system to ensure the post-close team is set up for success

Understand that Backflip is an evolving company and at times there will be changes to the standard operating procedures that are currently in place

Qualifications:

2+ years of mortgage closing experience, directly interacting with borrowers; experience with fix-and-flip or construction loans a plus

Proven understanding of loan package components (mortgage, note, agreement, etc.)

Solid knowledge of real estate documents like purchase agreements, addendums, affidavits, and POAs

Experience balancing closing statements for accurate settlements

FinTech or startup experience a plus

Ability to multi-task with exceptional time management, prioritization and attention to detail

Exemplary computer skills - demonstrated ability and desire to learn new technologies (we use Slack + Notion + Google Workspace + Front + HubSpot + more)

Comfortable in a small, relatively unstructured office environment (we are remote)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with appropriate urgency to various audiences

General understanding of basic investment concepts (or demonstrated desire to learn); comfortable performing basic math calculations

Self-motivated, coachable, and highly collaborative; takes ownership of tasks and pride in work product; details matter

High integrity, dependable, accountable, humble, and respectful
