Job Overview

The Head of Strategic Partnerships is a key leadership role at VRChat. This person will nourish all external facing strategic relationships, including platform/technology partners (e.g. Unity, Steam, Apple, Google, Meta, Tilia, AWS etc.) and business partners looking to integrate with the VRChat platform. As the first dedicated partnerships hire, this person will play a pivotal role in establishing strong and sustaining relationships with external stakeholders, and using those relationships to create business impact.
This role reports into VRChat’s VP of Operations & Legal, and will support the existing business development team. This person will work with heads of various functions, with periodic interactions with the exec team and VRChat’s Board of Directors. 

Job & Team Impact

In this role, you will help build VRChat’s formal partnerships function from zero to one.  There are many partnerships that keep VRChat running, including those with vendors and platform partners. With the launch of VRChat’s creator economy, there is also a great opportunity to work with additional partners who want to leverage the VRChat platform and drive our creator content flywheel. Your work and relationships will directly impact VRChat’s ability to provide an incredible experience for its millions of users.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with VRChat’s VP of Operations & Legal and broader executive team to formulate strategic partnerships and business development strategy
  • Manage new and existing platform/technology partner and major vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts, participating in regular touchpoints and generally maintaining strong relationships 
  • Pitch new partners, including service providers and strategic partners, and define, negotiate and manage the agreements covering such relationships
  • Support product and operations teams by building and managing relationships and agreements with appropriate partners
  • Meet with prospective business partner creators who want to participate in VRChat’s creator economy, understand their needs and help bring them onto the VRChat platform
  • Represent VRChat  in meetings with executives from other companies

    Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of work experience, including 3+ years of related partnerships experience  for technology or gaming companies
  • Experience in the technology and/or gaming industries working with large brands, intellectual property owners, developers and/or hardware platforms
  • Highly strategic and capable of structuring and negotiating complex agreements, including experience in interpreting legal documents and working with attorneys to complete agreements
  • Experience working cross-functionally to orchestrate and successfully complete deals
  • Experience in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous start-up environment
  • High level of enthusiasm and innovation with experience adapting easily to change and ability to multitask
  • Creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and highly organized
